If you have yet to watch the show that is taking over the country, I suggest you tune in! Extreme Weight Loss is a unique docu-series that takes viewers on an extraordinary 365-day journey of overly obese participants. During the two hour program, expect to see courage and resilience from participants, as they work with trainer couple Chris and Heidi Powell.
The train together, stay together power couple break barriers and overcome obstacles with each participant. Each episode is unlike the one before and you better be prepared to tear up a bit, especially in the “Love Can’t Weight” episodes featuring over weight couples taking on the weight loss journey together.
Every participant on Extreme Weight Loss starts the first 90 days with Chris and Heidi Powell at their home in Arizona. The next 90 days are spent back at home with their family and all the “trigger” food and temptations. This is the biggest test of strength both physically and mentally.
So now you’re probably thinking, ‘well of course they are going to lose weight with personal trainers, and chefs’, well it may be more in reach to make your own personal weight loss change then you think! Some easy first steps for making a lifestyle change and maintaining it is to head straight to your fridge. Heidi Powell gave us a little snapshot into what exactly is in the ‘fit fam’s’ fridge.
You won’t find any processed foods or old Chinese take-out lurking in the Powell fridge. A lot of fruits (strawberries, pineapple, un-sweetened apple sauce, prunes, lemons), vegetables (mixed greens – organic, broccoli, cauliflower), corn tortilla, eggs, egg whites, raw almonds, shredded cheddar cheese, almond milk and Naked Juice – green machine – just to list a few!
Chris and Heidi use carb cycling as the foundation for themselves and their clients. Many body builders use carb cycling as their secret weapon to bulk up and build muscle, but it also cuts fat and people see huge changes in their body.
So what is it? It’s an eating plan that cycles through high-carb and low-carb days with built in reward days, or reward meals. It’s all about a lifestyle change, not a quick weight loss and then a few months later it’s back to old habits. With carb cycling you eat five meals a day with a healthy combination of proteins and carbs. Heidi has a full list of the four different carb cycling plans and more information on her website.
