Cheer Challenge on the horizon
by Kelsey Hipkin
This weekend (Jan. 30 and 31) will see the Mount Royal Cougars and cross-town rivals the SAIT Trojans face off for the second Men’s Hockey Cheer Challenge Weekend of the season.
The challenge pits Cougar spectators against Trojan spectators to see who has the best when it comes to fan support between the two institutions.
The last time the two teams met was Nov.7 and 8, 2008. Despite MRC having 41 more fans in attendance they lost both games to SAIT 3-1 and 9-4.
The Trojans are currently sitting atop the ACAC standings with a record of 18-0-2. The Cougars are sitting fourth with a record of 13-7-0.
The Cougars are heading into the challenge, having won their last two games against Briercrest. Players of the games for the Cougars in those games were Dustin Kimber and Coleton Thielmann.
There are only six games remaining in the season for the men’s hockey team before ACAC post-season play begins.
The Cougars women’s team will face off against U of C this weekend for two games. The team is at 4-11-1 on the season and is sitting last in ACAC play, while U of C is first with a record of 13-3-0.
