Province gives go-ahead for Mount Royal University
Don Braid of the Calgary Herald reported today that Mount Royal College will soon be given the go-ahead to become Mount Royal University by the provincial government.
According to “government sources,” the Post-Secondary Learning Amendment Act, part of the spring legislative agenda, will allow “post-secondary institutions that allow baccalaureate degree programming in specified areas to have the option of having the term university in their names.”
Most of Mount Royal’s students are in university-level baccalaureate programs, and Braid’s sources say the degrees will fit into the “specified areas.”
The Reflector will have a full report on this story in our upcoming Feb. 12 print issue.
