Uncovered: Dancing around Calgary
Among all the great theatre and festival events happening in our fair city there are two devoted to dance.
Dancers Studio West annual Alberta Dance Explosion festival is happening February 11-14, 18-21, 25-28. In it’s 27th year it features works from Alberta choreographers — established and beginners — over a three-week period. Some of the more established names include Decidedly Jazz Danceworks co-founders Viciki Adams Willis and Michele Moss, Deanne Walsh and Jamie Freeman Cormack.
The other big dance number this month is Joni Mitchell’s Fiddle and the Drum with the Alberta Ballet. Premiered here in Alberta two years ago, it has returned after a theatre screening in New York with a full-length adaptation, including four new songs and imagery. It runs Feb. 26 – 28.
