Sled Island: Daily Guide — Wednesday
Photo courtesy SNFU. Long-time punk-rock legends SNFU, led by glamorous co-founding member Mr. Chi Pig, are set to tear up the Ship & Anchor tonight.
While some of you may have ventured out on Tuesday to the soft-opening of Sled Island ’09, (Loads of Twitter posts suggest the 3rd annual Poster Show at ArtLife was awesome!) there’s no denying that the real action gets underway Wednesday night. Here is the first of four Daily Guides to Sled Island so you can navigate and plan your evenings accordingly.
Anybody who’s anybody will be at:
Factory Party 6! By all accounts Randy Gibson’s creation is primed for its biggest show yet. Featuring avant-garde, interactive and performing art, fashion, live DJs and much much more for just $12, it’s likely Factory Party-ers will be jumping up and down until all hours of the night. Plus it’s the only venue where Andrew WK, one of the major players at Sled Island this year, is scheduled to perform.

Looking for a little local flavour?
Check out dynamic duo Teekay and Cosm, commonly known as Dragon Fli Empire. This straight-shooting group is huge and Japan and will likely bring down the house at Bamboo. While they are set to close out a night of hip-hop at around midnight, you might want to get there early as Bamboo is small and word on the street is earlier act Cam The Wizzard is quite talented in his own right.

Venue to settle in at
Why not grab a pint of your favourite ale and pop a squat at the Ship & Anchor. The evening kicks off with The Yells at 10p.m. and closes out with 27-year veterans SNFU. The Edmonton-based punk-rock group is no stranger to stage-diving and heavy drinking, so make sure you are good and liquored up and ready to party when they take the stage at 1 a.m.
What if I need a break from music?
As part of Sled Island, IKG, in association with Alberta College Art and Design, will launch four related exhibitions that address imagined and real living spaces, domestic and institutional space, the forgotten or overlooked, and the strength of memory in shaping those spaces.

Late-night lovin’
Check out Excision and Dieselboy as they put on Sled Island’s first dub-step show. This one starts at midnight at Dickens’.
Three things to know before you go
1. Dragon Fli Empire has a song titled “CGY” that literally discusses all of the areas in our beloved town. It is definitely worth a listen, so click here.
2. Yes, Owen Pallett’s project Final Fantasy is actually named after and inspired by the video game series. Catch this surreal band at Central United Church as they play a headline set starting at 9 p.m. Check out the band’s extremely weird website here.
3. Tubby Dog, with a whopping capacity of 60 people, is hosting all-age Sled Island shows every night until Saturday. Tonight, starting at 9, Like Animals Again, Sounds Like BS, Sleepyhead and Pete Samples are scheduled to perform amidst the giant wieners and greasy onion rings.
