Farewell to the pow’
by Vanessa Vegter
The sun is shining, the birds are chirping and…wait a minute, what happened to my season? It seems as though the snow had finally arrived just in time to say “au revoir!”
There is really nothing more disappointing in mid-March than the sight of happy rabbits sporting their new brown coats, soaking up the uninvited sun. Personally, I was a little disappointed
with my season; the days I did get out were absolutely
phenomenal, but they are so far in the distant wintery past that they seem nearly indistinguishable
from my freshy filled daydreams.
I don’t want to speak for shredders
and shreddies alike when I say this season cased; after all, blue bird days can sing to the slope bound heart. Instead, I decided
to ask some fellow riders for their take on the season:
Brian McLaughlin
Age: 34
Rides: Skiing for over 20 years
Favourite hill: Kicking Horse
How was your season?: “Shitty. Ripped my shoulder, haven’t skied in two months, but I had two huge powder days which were awesome.”
Jordan Baptie
Age: 15
Rides: Boarding for seven years
Favourite hill: Sunshine
How was your season?: “It was awesome!”
Cody Stuart
Age: 32
Rides: Boarding for 14 years, with a couple years skiing
Favourite hill: Sunshine.
How was your season?: “Season started great and then the snow went away along with my lower fifth and sixth vertebrae.”
Cameron Tettmar
Age: 26
Rides: Skiing for 21 years
Favourite hill: Fernie
How was your season?: “Not over yet…short.”
Andrea Goss
Age: 21
Rides: Boarding for seven years
Favourite hill: Panorama
How was your season?: “This was actually a great season for me. Not only did I get to board in Panorama and Nisku (with some great conditions and people)
but I also boarded in New Zealand just a few months ago. There’s just nothing like a beautiful
drive through the great Canadian Rockies followed by some amazing pow’.”
