Cougar’s Corner: Player Profile
Taking a look at Julia Pasieka, #4 for the Cougar’s Women’s Volleyball Squad
Position: Middle
Pasieka is second on the team in both blocks and points
The Reflector: Describe yourself as a player.
Pasieka: I would describe myself as super competitive and very passionate when I play. I can get pretty intense at times, but I think my teammates feed off of it
TR: How do you balance school and sports?
Pasieka: Balancing school and sports is all about time management. You don’t have a lot of time to procrastinate, so you have to be efficient in getting things done when the need to be done. You also have to know that you can’t be doing any homework when you’re at practice, and vice versa when you’re in the library… it’s about giving 100% of what you have into what you’re doing at that moment.
TR:Do you have any pre-game rituals?
Pasieka:I don’t have anything superstitious. I always shower on game day though, and once I get to the gym the girls usually end up having an impromptu dance party.. but nothing I would consider a ritual.
TR:What is your ultimate career goal?
Pasieka: I would love to be a teacher. I love working with kids, and watching them grow and learn. I haven’t decided what ages I want to teach yet, but I am going to do my Masters degree overseas next year and then I’ll be back to do an education degree so I have time to figure out where I want to be.
TR: How would you describe your coaches?
Pasieka: My coaches are super competitive about everything all the time, whether its golfing, shooting hoops before practice, or in volleyball. I love it though, it’s easy to feed off of their energy. They’re all outrageous and hilarious and play off each other really well too, so it is a great dynamic.
TR: What is your worst habit?
Pasieka: I tend to be super hard on myself, both in volleyball and in general… Lately I have found that I also have the bad habit of leaving my keys in the door of my apartment, only to find them the next day when I am leaving. Luckily they’ve always been there in the morning!
