Cougar’s Corner: Fall wrap-up
Cougars unable to claw out wins as first half of the season comes to an end

Men’s Basketball
On Nov. 30, the WolfPack defeated the Cougars 100-73. It’s the second time this season that TRU has scored 100 points or more. The WolfPack were behind 19-17 after the first quarter but found their rhythm scoring 30 points in the second quarter, going ahead 47-38 and never looking back.
Women’s Basketball
Thompson Rivers University WolfPack women’s basketball team will enter their Christmas Break in sole possession of fourth place in the Canada West Pacific Division. The WolfPack improved their record to 6-4 after sweeping the Mount Royal Cougars at the Tournament Capital Centre Nov. 30. With the loss, the Cougars fell to 1-9 and sit in the basement of the Pacific Division.
Men’s Hockey
Canada West men’s hockey leading scorer Derek Hulak recorded four assists in the University of Saskatchewan Huskies’ win over the visiting Mount Royal Cougars Nov. 30 in Saskatoon’s Rutherford Rink. Saskatchewan finishes the first half of the season 8-7-1, while Mount Royal dropped to 6-9-1. The win was part two sweep for the Huskies who swept the series.
Women’s Hockey
The Cougars lost to the Saskatchewan Huskies 5-4 in overtime Nov. 30 at the Flames Community Arena. Taralynn Suzuki, Danielle Klein, Jade Osadchuk and Emily Harrison tallied for the Cougars. Rachel Johnson, Cami Wooster, Alexee Klassen and Sarah Greshner scored in regulation for the Huskies. Marley Ervine buried the overtime winner for Saskatchewan. The Cougars now hold a record of 2-12-2 while the Huskies improved to 10-3-2.
Women’s Volleyball
The Mount Royal Cougars defeated the Thompson Rivers WolfPack 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-15) Nov. 30 at home. Julia Pasieka and Fallon Middlemisshad 13 and 11.5 points for the Cougars. Brianne Rauch and Kristen Gesbrecht had 11.5 and 9 points respectively for the WolfPack.
Men’s Volleyball
The Cougars fell 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 26-24) to the Thompson Rivers WolfPack at home Nov. 30. Casey Knight and Brad Gunter had 17 and 16.5 points for TRU. Colton de Man had a game high 19.5 points and Jordan Parkin added 10 for the Cougars. Mount Royal now holds a record of 6-6 while the WolfPack improved to 8-4.
