Grab your dusty sneakers, that water bottle at the back of your cupboard and that old “running marathons how-to-guide” that your mom bought you a handful of birthdays ago. It’s time.
The 27th annual MRU Sprint Triathlon is coming just around the corner and you don’t have to be an iron man or woman to do it.
“This is the perfect triathlon for a first-timer,” said Ron Griffith, event coordinator. “Every year about 50 per cent of the registrations are of those doing their first triathlon so newbies will be in good company.”
This year’s triathlon is happening on April 6 and will be featuring the typical triathlon layout of swim, bike and run. You can take on the challenge single-handedly or divvy the course with some buddies.
If you have never done one, don’t fret. There is a workshop called “How to do this Triathlon” happening on April 2 which you can register for upon your triathlon registration. The workshop is a new addition this year.
“To those who are doing their first triathlon my tip would be that they shouldn’t worry about trying to do everything perfectly, or even what equipment they have. They should just focus on having a fun learning experience,” said Griffith.
Not keen on participating? Cheer on those that are taking on the challenge and help out as a volunteer for the event.
The ‘Do it all yourself’ fees are $19.00 per MRU students, $39.00 for members and $99.00 non-members. Team registration fees are $15.00 per MRU student, $25.00 per member and $55.00 per non-member.
Registration ends on March 30. There are 300 spots left so to claim yours call Recreation at MRU at (403) 440-6517. To volunteer contact recevents@mtroyal.ca.
