With school coming to an end and the holiday season just beginning, we at The Reflector put together a Christmas movie countdown, so you know which movies are a must see while you lounge in your pyjamas over break. We have covered the funny, the sad and the action-packed in our list, so be sure to check out these holiday cheer films.
ELF – 2003 – This Will Ferrell (Buddy) classic has all the laughs you need this holiday season. It is a story about an Elf who gets fired from Santa’s workshop and must make his way in this world on his own. Wrecking havoc amongst mall Christmas villages, Buddy the Elf must find his true identity.
A Christmas Carol – 1951 – This Christmas classic tells the Charles Dickens story about Scrooge, a man who hates Christmas, and the three ghosts who teach him what is important in life. This movie is a classic for families of all ages. Will he stay a Christmas grump forever, or change his ways and celebrate the holiday?
National Lampoons Christmas Vacation – 1989 – Christmas at the Griswolds’ is one accident after another. The usual bad luck for Clark (Chevy Chase) is amplified when his family spends the holiday at their house. With plenty of laughs this Christmas movie is the perfect “adult humour” classic. Can he save the spirit of Christmas?
Die Hard – 1988 – A group of terrorists threatens to ruin Christmas for John McClane (Bruce Willis.) who has just arrived in Los Angeles to spend Christmas with his wife. It is up to McClane to stop the terrorists and save the lives of the hostages.
How the Grinch stole Christmas – 2001 – Take a trip to Whoville in this Dr. Seuss classic adaptation. With Jim Carrey as The Grinch this movie is filled with humour for kids and adults. The story focuses on The Grinch, the only who in whoville with no Christmas spirit, perhaps because his heart is two sizes too small. Can Cindy Lou Who save the Grinch and the Christmas celebrations in Whoville? Find out with this holiday classic.
Home Alone – 1990 – As if Christmas needs any more than Macauley Culkin fending for himself after his family leaves him behind for Christmas vacation. But the fun adventures soon end for Kevin (Culkin) when two burglars attempt to ransack his family home and it is up the 8-year-old to save the day. Can we just say, this kid is mighty creative.
So grab your onesie pyjamas, pour yourself a big hot chocolate and settle in for a Christmas movie marathon to set your holiday season in motion.
