With the ‘Greatest outdoor show on earth’ fast approaching it was time to announce the highly anticipated Coke Stage line-up on May 21. With the Coke stage becoming one big attraction for Stampede goers, the coke covert concert serves as the perfect way to get fans excited a couple months early.
The concert which takes place at Flames central annually hosts two of the bands performing in this years Coke stage line-up, but the catch is, if you are attending you have no idea who is performing. This could work out great, or could be an utter disappointment depending on your music tastes. But the event was clearly a great success this year, with there being a little something for all fans in attendance.
The first band to surprise the crowd was Canadian alternative group July Talk, who had stage presence that was remarkably energetic, keeping the crowd engaged regardless of their music taste, even bringing fans on stage to enjoy the excitement with them.
After a short break the excitement hit an all time high with the announcement of the line-up in a countdown quite similar to New Years. This years performers include, Calgary’s own Keizsa, Vance Joy, The Arkells, Magic!, Francesco Yates, Scott Helman, OK GO, Lights, Moist and the second surprise performer of the night, Brett Kissel.
While the excitement for the line up was high, and fans getting especially excited for the return of The Arkells, there was some disappointment with the line-up that usually pleases the masses.
Nicole Angus, one Coke covert concert goer said she was expecting more.
“In the past there has always been a few acts that really catch my eye, and since I am not the biggest Stampede person, these are usually a draw for me, but this year I am only looking forward to The Arkells,” Angus said.
Regardless of line-up disappointment the win-your-way-in concert is a crowd pleaser, and gets the excitement meter up before the Stampede rolls through our town once again this summer.
