Cougars, calamities and classics: Dixon takes second athlete of the year award and; In hockey…
Cougars
Big congrats to multi-sport Cougar athlete Ashley Dixon who won Female Athlete of the Year for the ACAC for the second year in a row. Dixon was part of the women’s soccer team that went 8-0-2 on the season, bringing home a bronze medal for the college. She is also a member of the Mount Royal badminton team earning another bronze in ACAC Doubles Championship play.
Calamities
Well Flames fans it seems that the boys in red have fallen from grace … well not quite to that extreme but the Flames have been knocked off their perch atop the Northwest Division by those pesky Vancouver Canucks. In their last ten the Canucks have gone 8-2-0 in their last ten while the Flames have a miserly record of 4-6-0. Calgary had worked hard to maintain that division lead for so long, it will be nice to see if they can fight back to maintain the number one position. Maybe they can start with a win over the Dallas Stars tomorrow night (April 2) at 6:30 in Dallas. It’s a PPV game so if you don’t want to shell out those paper view bucks head to your favorite pub and shell them out on beer instead.
Classics
Well ladies, we ditched the corset (most of us anyways) and got the vote and now for our very skilled athletic sisters we may even see a lady pasted on the walls of the Hockey Hall of Fame. In a story from TSN.ca the Hall is revamping it’s bylaws to admit female players. Really, it’s about bloody time. TSN posted a picture of Hayley Wickenheiser, she definitely would deserve a vote, as well as Cassie Campbell and Danielle Goyette to start. You go girls!
