Cougars hosting annual v-ball tourney
By Blaine Meller
While many student athletes will be enjoying some time off during the holiday break, such is not completely true for Mount Royal’s volleyball stars.
The Cougars men’s and women’s volleyball teams will host the annual TimberTown Tournament Jan. 2-4, 2011. Sixteen men’s teams and 12 women’s teams will compete in the tournament, staged in the university’s triple and Stanley gymnasiums.
The Cougars women’s team will kick off their tournament Jan. 2 at 8 a.m. when they face SAIT on the triple gym’s east court. After a very short break, they will next play Columbia Bible College at 10:30 a.m. that same day. The round robin portion of the Cougars tournament concludes Jan. 3 with a contest against Winnipeg’s Red River Rebels. Game time is 1:30 p.m.
The men also kick off their tournament Jan. 2 with a 6 p.m. game against ACAC rivals Lakeland on centre (Kenyon) court. From there, they will play two matches Jan. 3, a 10:30 a.m. tilt with Douglas College and a 4:30 clash with Briercrest. Playoff match-ups, which take place Jan. 4, will be determined after conclusion of the round robin.
